Yuvraj Singh play an important part in the Indian batting line-up, not to speak of his fielding which is worth a lot more. Yuvraj has amazing reflexes and probably one of the best fielders in the World right now. Somehow, and this is true most of the time, Yuvraj Singh and Md. Kaif never quite get the recognition they truly deserve for the crucial roles they play in the one-day scheme of things. When the topic of the lower middle-order came up the other day, and somebody pointed out that it has been failing of late, the Indian vice-captain Rahul Dravid jumped to the defence of the two Young Turks. Occupying the No. 6 batting positions in the abridged version of the game is not easy. For, situations vary match after match. Aggression from the word goes might be the requirement on a particular day. Caution might be the watchword on another.
In short, it calls for flexibility and presence of mind. The top-order batsmen get sufficient time to play themselves in, but Kaif and Yuvraj walk in during the last 10 overs and have to start hitting from the first ball. You cannot expect it to come off every time. Seven out of 10 times, one would fail. They are successful thrice, and that's the point. This does not mean they are going through a lean phase. People do not seem to understand that Kaif and Yuvraj perform what is probably the toughest job in the side, and they do it so selflessly. It is unfair to say that they are in poor form just because they have got a couple of low scores.
On why the matches of the Champions Trophy had been low-scoring, Yuvraj said the slow nature of the wickets was the reason. "The wickets are slow. So runs are hard to come. As more matches are played, the wickets will become better," "It's good that there is a break. All the players have gone back (home). We will have four days before the next match and then we will draw plans against the opponents," the 24-year-old batsman said. Yuvraj, who was accompanied by mother Shabnam, said he had made preparations to celebrate Diwali at home in Chandigarh. "Everything is ready. I have stacked packets of crackers at home," he said.

One of his most memorable innings was a partnership with Mohammad Kaif in the Natwest Series final against England in July 2002 which led India to victory. He was selected and represented India at the 2003 Cricket World Cup. He scored his first century in his fourth season with the Indian team against Bangladesh in 2003. After that he also scored hundreds against Zimbabwe and Australia, including a 139 off 119 balls at the Sydney Cricket Ground. In the Indian Oil Cup 2005, he made 110 (of 114 balls) (his third century) and an important partnership worth 165 runs with Mohammad Kaif, to become the man of the match against West Indies in the last match of the round robin league. After reaching his century, he attracted attention by angry gesticulations to the Indian dressing room, which was postulated to be due to his clashes with team management. Greg Chappell had been appointed as the new Indian coach he had cricticised Singh. He later praised Chappell's techniques
